Sassy Saturday: Oh my Oscars!

Hello, my loves - and welcome back to the Chick Lit Kitchen! Can you believe it's the last day of February already?!
I know what you're all thinking, of course: it feels like it's been forever since my last post (since last Sunday's Holden & Feminism treatise, to be exact), but things have gotten busy with school and...well, just life in general. You know how it is. I hope ya'll can forgive me my blogging sins - and that you're looking forward to the LAST EVER INSTALLMENT of the Holden & I series, Holden & Salinger, coming tomorrow, Sunday, March 1!
Anyhoo, today's Sassy Saturday post is probably entirely cliche and exactly what you all expected, but I'm a white female under the age of 30, so you knew it was coming: Oh my Oscars!
Now, I didn't even watch the Academy Awards - although I heard I missed a pretty ballin' performance from Anna Kendrick, and I couldn't be more psyched for Eddie Redmayne's win for the Theory of Every…

Holden & I, Part II: Holden & Feminism

Part II: Holden & Feminism
Welcome back, my fellow Holden-ites! I hope you've got your red hunting hats at the ready, because we're going to get right into the second installment of the Holden & I series, Holden & Feminism. In it, I'll be briefly analyzing Salinger's female characters and Holden's relationship to them, in order to further answer the pressing question I touched upon in my last post: is Holden a feminist?

But, per usual, a brief disclaimer first: I didn't write the Catcher in the Rye (oh, if only!) and I don't own any of these characters. I've tried to cite my sources as best as possible, but if you catch something that appears copied, please e-mail me at chicklitkitchen@gmail.com so I can update my citations! Finally, an MLA citation is provided for your convenience at the bottom of this page...please use it! Plagiarism is the Devil of all English classes, and trust me, you will get caught.

In my first installment of the Holden …

Sassy Saturday: a DIY birthday box for the birthday boy!

Hello, darlings!

Happy Saturday! Today, February 21, is a very special day for someone near and dear to my heart (and to said person, don't act like you didn't know this was coming)...HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MIKE!!!!!That's right, my boyfriend's becoming an old man. So in honor of his sweet 19th, I'm dedicating today's Sassy Saturday post to him. Love you, sweetie!

I apologize to those of you who just barfed - if the relationship thing just isn't your thing, then this post is probably not for you. For those of you who are brave - maybe you'rein a committed long-distance relationship or have a friend who lives in a far off land - read onward to see how I'm celebrating my boyfriend's birthday from miles away!

Celebrating birthdays is one of my favorite pastimes. The cooking, the planning, the DIY projects...there's nothing I don't love about parties. But when you're dating a college student who lives far away from you, the party game can be a diff…

Survive Lent with Scrumptious Cinnabon Macarons!

Hello, darlings!

If you're a practicing Christian, today is Ash Wednesday, which marks the first official day of Lent. The good news is that Easter - and hopefully spring! - are on their way. The bad news is that many of us will be renouncing some of our favorite pleasures in symbolic recognition of Jesus' 40 days in the desert. Poetic, yes, but also a bit stinky!

Highlights from TIME's article about what Twitter users are giving up for Lent included boys and Nutella, but the most popular sacrifice - and my sacrifice - is chocolate.

After all those cupcakes on Valentine's Day, I could probably use the detox from the sweet stuff! However, baking without chocolate does kind of limit my options for the next six weeks. When I found myself wondering what scrumptious treats I could make today without breaking my chocolate fast, I was dumbfounded until I remembered the one thing I kept saying I would make and never had: macarons!

Until today, I was a macaron virgin. I had always…

Marvelous Monday: style, inspiration, and cupcakes!

Source (cupcake): Fanpop
Hello, sunshines - and happy Presidents' Day! I sit here with a belly full of homemade pizza, so I'm happy as a clam as I write this limited edition Marvelous Monday post - I hope your days are all just as wonderful as mine :)

Today's post is extra-special, as it's the first and only Marvelous Monday (because Saturday was Valentine's Day, I forwent my usual Sassy Saturday post) in Chick Lit Kitchen history. In honor of this special day, I challenge you to make today, Monday, just as marvelously sassy as any Saturday! Instead of groaning "Ugh, it's Monday," I dare you to jump out of bed exclaiming "Yay! It's Monday!" (okay, maybe not), put on your favorite lipstick (inspired by my last Sassy Saturday post, perhaps?), and tackle the work day as chipper as if it were a weekend and you'd woken up three hours later. That's a dare, and because none of my bad@$$ readers would ever back down from a dare, you have t…
